Good food! Good mood!
The relationship between body and mind has always been emphasized in Ayurveda.
The strong digestive system leads to a strong and capable mind. Therefore food choices you make play a significant role in determining your mood, how you feel each day and how you handle difficult times. So eating food that eases your digestion will process your emotions more efficiently, eventually letting you feel light and enthusiastic about your life.
The common mood disorders can be corrected through correcting food habits that balances the vitiated Dosha. For example “depression”. Depression is a slow, heavy and dull mental condition. To balance this, one needs to have light, piquant or bitter food in their diet. The feeling of heaviness and dullness is due to Kapha Dosha. This will help to enhance and balance digestion.
Anger is another uncontrolled emotion. Anger is a pitta disorder and generally those who are quick in getting angry often have inflammation, irritation, loose stools and acid reflux in their digestive tract. To balance digestion of pitta, include sweet or bitter flavored food items to cool and cleanse the irritated intestine.
Anxiety on the other hand is a dry, light and restless condition. To stabilize the nervous system and to calm the mind down, it is important to include food with oily and heavy attributes.
Anxiety is a Vata predominant. It leads to dryness and constipation. IBS is a Vata digestive disorder and is closely related to anxiety. Due to increased Vata, dryness rises and enzyme output becomes low and hence your body becomes unable to digest complex meals. Complex meals with many different ingredients requires more energy to digest. Take easy and light digestive meals and sip lukewarm water throughout the day. This will keep your body hydrated and stimulate the digestion process.
Maintaining and supporting digestion through proper food choices is vital.
Strong digestive system is essential to fuel the rest of the body. The basic principles in Ayurveda always emphasizes on strong body and mind relation. For example proper digestion does not only breaks down the food you ingest but is also responsible for how you metabolize your daily experiences and information.
A strong digestive system leads to a strong and capable mind. Therefore the food you eat plays a significant role on how you feel each day and how you handle difficult times.
Learn to eat for digestion and find yourself processing emotion more efficiently and enthusiastically. A healthy digestive system will boost your physical and emotional strength, hence putting you in better position to cope with tough times.
